Blue Bonds: An innovative tool to finance the Sustainable Ocean Economy

Blue bonds are innovative finance mechanisms which have the potential to scale-up the blue economy. Blue bonds can be issued by sovereign governments, the private sector, or by multilateral banks. This session aims to demystify blue bonds and provide case studies of successful blue bond initiatives. Featuring the Fiji Ministry of Economy, the Asian Development Bank, the UN Global Compact, and a corporate case study from Thai Union, this session will explore the challenges and opportunities of using blue bonds aimed at building a pipeline of strong blue investments.
