The “Sustainable Fisheries & Security for the Blue Continent” side-event is a high-level panel discussion among donors, local community groups, and Pacific island nations on development and conservation of sustainable fisheries, equity and inclusion, and ecosystem based adaptation for small island developing states. The panel will also highlight civil society’s role in development and conservation of sustainable fisheries, particularly in the coastal zone and related to food and livelihood security. Other discussion topics will focus on coordination and collaboration among donors and other stakeholders to ensure that communities that rely on the ocean have their specific needs met. The event will also discuss the important role of indigenous groups, women, and other under-represented groups in management and decision making.
