David Willima is a Research Officer working on maritime security at the Institute for Security Studies in the Pretoria office. Prior to joining the ISS, David worked for the Environmental Learning and Research Center at Rhodes University in South Africa as a research assistant on the One Ocean Hub Project. After that he joined Caritas-Zambia as an election monitoring provincial coordinator in the Democracy and Governance Unit. David’s research interests include; Maritime Security, Blue Economies, Sustainable fisheries and Migration. David has an Honours degree in political and international studies from Rhodes University and is studying towards a Master’s degree on migration and (in)security.
