The conference organizers will prepare the provisional conference agenda based on commitments accepted until February 16, 2022. The organizers will consider commitment submissions after that time on a case-by-case basis.
Commitments should advance at least one of the six Areas of Action: Climate Change, Sustainable Fisheries, Sustainable Blue Economies, Marine Protected Areas, Maritime Security, and Marine Pollution. Please note that the ocean-climate nexus, including ocean-based climate solutions, and the importance of a healthy ocean to Small Island Developing States will be cross-cutting priorities of the 7th Our Ocean Conference. New commitments that relate to the theme “Our Ocean, Our People, Our Prosperity” will be particularly welcome. Commitments should be progressive, measurable, and impactful.
For protected area commitments, please also specify ‘Level of Protection’: (minimally; lightly; highly; or fully), and the size and coordinates of the protected area. If the protected area is zoned, the different protection levels and areas of each zone should be described in the ‘impact’ section.
Existing users of the commitment registry can log at www.ouroceanconference.org to submit new commitments. If you are not an existing user, you may create your profile by clicking here, or if you require assistance accessing the commitment registry, please email bridge@palaupresident.info.
Please note that the conference organizers will review all submitted commitments for their boldness, measurability, and expected impact before inclusion in the Our Ocean Conference commitment registry.
Updating Previous Commitments
Over the past six Our Ocean Conferences, participants have announced more than a thousand commitments worth more than $90 billion and protected more than five million square miles of ocean. Transparency is an essential element of the Our Ocean Conference. It is important to track progress of previous commitments to showcase impact and inspire future announcements.

Tracking Progress at Our Ocean Conferences
An essential part of the Our Ocean Conferences is tracking and updating the progress of past commitments made, and to share lessons learned from past successes and progress made. The OOC Map Viewer below provides a way of searching previously-made commitments.
A number of third-party analyses on the impact of previous commitments have also been carried out, such as:
-
Assessment of commitments on sustainable fisheries to the Our Ocean Conferences: where are we now? (Geir Huse and colleagues at Institute of Marine Research, 2019)
- High-profile international commitments for ocean protection: Empty promises or meaningful progress? (Kirsten Grorud-Colvert and colleagues at Oregon State University, published in Marine Policy, 2019)

The 7th Our Ocean Conference organizers request invitees who have made commitments at past Our Ocean Conferences to provide updates on the progress of their commitments and the impact of these commitments. Existing users of the commitment registry can log in at www.ouroceanconference.org to provide updates. If you are not an existing user or require assistance accessing the commitment registry, please email bridge@palaupresident.info.
For protected area commitments, the organizer encourages submission of the ‘Stage of Establishment’ (proposed; designated; implemented; or managed areas) and the ‘Level of Protection’ (minimally; lightly; highly; or fully) as defined in The MPA Guide.
When updating commitment progress to 100%, indicating that a commitment has been completed, participants are encouraged to provide any publicly available information documenting commitment completion.
The conference organizers will be producing an analysis of updated commitments based on progress updates received as of February 16, 2022.Should you have any further questions about the commitment submission and update process, please contact bridge@palaupresident.info and OurOcean2022@state.gov.
